New Briefing Paper: Community Consent Index 2015 (Oxfam)

This Oxfam briefing paper examines the publicly available corporate commitments of extractive companies regarding community rights and community engagement. “The results suggest increasing commitments to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) in the mining sector but disappointing trends in relation to the oil and gas sector and women’s participation in decision making.” Further, no companies examined for the report have made public commitment to uphold FPIC for non-indigenous project-affected people and FPIC policy commitments often lack detailed implementation guidance. The briefing paper includes a summary table that provides a valuable overview of the companies’ public commitments regarding community rights.
