In September 2023, DCAF and the ICRC submitted a contribution to the update of the Mining Policy Framework (MPF) undertaken by the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF).

In the submission, DCAF-ICRC highlighted recommendations for governments on strengthening commitments to promoting respect for international human rights and humanitarian law in national mining sectors. Read the full submission here.

The IGF is an intergovernmental organization that supports 81 member countries in advancing their sustainable development goals through effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector. The MPF is a compendium of good practices for governments to manage the full range of issues in the mining sector. The IGF developed and tabled the MPF at the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD19) in 2011 and is currently undertaking an update of the policy guidance tool.
