Workshop - Doing Business in Fragile Contexts: DOs and DON’Ts

On 14th September 2021, the 1st Swiss Forum on Business and Human Rights was held by the Swiss Government (the Secretariat for Economic Affairs and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs).

Within the Forum, DCAF and the ICRC took part in a workshop on responsible business conduct “Doing Business in Fragile Contexts: DOs and DON’Ts” as speakers. The workshop was organised by ECOFACT, a consultancy that offers services and advice on ESG risks and opportunities.

In their presentation, the DCAF-ICRC team focused first on the particular set of challenges and risks that companies traditionally encounter when operating in complex security environments and then presented examples of good practices and tools (e.g. Toolkit: Addressing Security and Human Rights Challenges in Complex Environments) that companies can use to tackle those challenges and ensure respect for the rights and dignity of local communities.
