In Mozambique’s Northern Province of Cabo Delgado, violent extremism is increasingly protracted, and climate-related shocks are more intense and frequent, which both contribute to a cycle of vulnerability.
Achieving the right balance of humanitarian, development and peace approaches is fundamental to prevent conflict intractability.
DCAF’s partner in Mozambique – the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) – leads the process of establishing a regional VPs Working Group based in Cabo Delgado, as well as a national VPs Working Group in Maputo. On 18 July 2022, CDD organized a webinar on ‘Fostering the humanitarian-development-peace Nexus to Prevent Conflict Intractability in Cabo Delgado’. Building on the webinar discussions, DCAF’s Head of the Business and Security Division, Dr. Alan Bryden, developed an article on the role of international intervention in Cabo Delgado Province.
