UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights: DCAF Submits Consultation on Extractives, Just Transition and Human Rights

In May 2023, DCAF contributed a submission in response to a call-for-input by the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights on Extractives, Just Transition and Human Rights (full report available here).

The submission encourages the Working Group to consider responsible security management, conflict prevention and respect for international humanitarian law as key challenges and risks to communities living in regions or countries that are affected by the energy transition, as the move away from coal is unleashing expanded extraction of liquefied natural gas and critical minerals essential to the production of batteries.
