Upcoming Event: Responsible Business in Uncertain Times: Strengthening Corporate Leadership Amidst Widening Global Conflicts

The global business environment is increasingly unpredictable, presenting new dilemmas for companies, governments and communities. On 9 October, DCAF will share the stage at a special one-day event hosted by the Institute for Human Rights and Business diving into “Responsible Business in Uncertain Times: Strengthening Corporate Leadership Amidst Global Conflicts.”

Hosted at the ICRC’s historic Humanitarium, the event will gather business leaders, civil society, governments and experts to discuss how companies can reduce the risk that their activities contribute to conflict and the ways that existing frameworks and tools can be more effectively deployed to help guide and strengthen responsible business action.

DCAF is honoured to join TrustWorks Global, Glencore and Global Witness at a panel specifically on: “The Role of Commodities in Uncertain Times:” Drawing on DCAF-ICRC Partnership tools and resources, DCAF will seek to unpack questions like:

At a time when production of critical energy transition minerals is destined to increase, what are the prospects for conflict-free such as copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt and rare earth elements?

How have multi-stakeholder initiatives like the OECD Guidelines on Conflict Minerals, Kimberley Process, the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights, the Dodd-Franck 1502 and the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative addressed conflict prevention?

How will they align with emerging regulation to create a 'smart mix' of voluntary standards and law?

Where will the gaps be, and what needs to be done to address them?
