DCAF supports launch of the National Action Plan on the Voluntary Principles in Mozambique
From
16-20 September, DCAF was in Maputo, Mozambique, to advance on a key project
initiative: supporting the Mozambique government and the Working Group on the
Voluntary Principles (VPs) to advance implementation of the VPs, following its
membership in the VPs Initiative as an engaged government member in May 2024. Together
with Mozambican partner the Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (CDD), as
well as various representatives from the private sector, local government, and
international organizations, DCAF held meetings to foster understanding on
lessons learned regarding the development of Mozambique’s National Action Plan
(NAP) on business and human rights, identifying ways to enhance the impact of
ongoing project activities and improve collaboration among stakeholder groups
on addressing key challenges in the extractive sector.
A
key highlight of the mission was a National Working Group meeting on 17
September, which officially launched the development of Mozambique’s NAP.
Additionally, DCAF’s meetings with the Ministry of Justice and the Office of
the High Commissioner for Human Rights provided valuable insights and
reinforced Mozambique's commitment to advancing the VPs framework.
