Guidance on Human Rights Impact Assessments for Private Security Providers

Guidance on Human Rights Impact Assessments for Private Security Providers

The purpose of this guidance document is to help private security companies conduct human rights due diligence (HRDD).

Description

The first step of HRDD is identifying and assessing actual and potential human rights impacts with which they may be involved. It is critically important for private security companies, because the delivery of their service can possibly violate human rights of stakeholders. When they operate in conflict-affected areas, they could also breach international humanitarian law.

The document provides an overview of human rights due diligence, separates out the elements of human rights impact assessments, and offers a number of recommendations based on best practices.
